During the run up to the Iraq War we put up NO WAR signs in our front yard, and someone on the street would take them down every night. We would get up every morning and simply put them up again. I kept saying it was like Vietnam all over again, and people would call me “a facile thinker” who “didn’t understand.” Dennis Kucinich was in Congress at the time, warning against the war, ridiculed for what we now know to have been his prescience and wisdom. He told me one day that Congress felt like it was filled with “war fever.” The only thing we can say about the Iraq War now is that it was pure criminal madness. Anyone saying now that “they did the best they knew how to do at the time” is lying. Everyone who voted for it - including our current president - went along with something that anyone willing to look deeper into the facts knew even at the time was wrong. Beyond wrong. Hideously wrong. May God forgive us.
I was working for Rep. Dave Obey during the launch of the Iraq War. It was horrible. Obey & other lawmakers trying to to stop it were berated & laughed at by media and political elites, almost all of whom would be rewarded & enriched for lying the country into the disaster.

Which is why we need new people in power. Americans have been trained to expect too little, to accept too much compromise with forces of greed that are literally robbing our grandchildren of the planet they deserve to inhabit. We get the Willow Project one day, the #IPCC report the next. Only we the people can stop the madness. I would cancel the Willow project on day one, and put America on an emergency level mobilization for a just transition from dirty to clean energy. There’s no more time to waste. #Marianne2024
Today, after yesterday's #IPCC report, everything is back to normal – as always. We continue to ignore the climate crisis as if nothing happened. Our societies are still in denial, and those in power go on with their never ending quests to maximise profits. We cannot afford this.

What will success look like? When every school in America is filled with this kind of joy.

The newest target of the extremist authoritarian movement in this country is CHILD LABOR LAWS! First Arkansas, now Iowa. Things are moving in the wrong direction. We need to turn this around. #ANewBeginning
An Iowa child labor bill proposes kids as young as 14 could work in slaughterhouses, mining, meatpacking, demolition, etc., under supervised "work-based learning" programs — and it removes civil liabilities from those companies if kids are injured or die. desmoinesregister.com/story/…

Ban them.
New: Previously unreleased investigative interviews w/ police officers who responded to the Uvalde school shooting revealed they abandoned their plan to quickly confront the gunman after learning a crucial piece of information: He was armed with an AR-15. texastribune.org/2023/03/20/…

The principle governing domestic and foreign policy should *not* be whatever creates more short term profit for huge corporations. Our governing principle should be whatever it is that helps people thrive. Americans being seduced into thinking that the former guarantees the latter has been one of the biggest scams ever foisted upon us. It has led to systemic injustices and tragic consequences, defining an era of governmental callousness toward the people whose job it is to serve.

Only in America do we freely without question give billions away for no reason at all to companies already making billions in profit, but somehow find it a controversial subject whether or not we should feed hungry children.
When schools offer universal free meals, hungry kids eat. They also have better academic performance, behavior, attendance, and psychosocial functioning. These benefits should be available to all — with no questions asked, and no such thing as lunch debt. jacobin.com/2023/03/universa…
