Important.
While Trump was doing photo-ops in East Palestine last week, we were talking to his supporters in town about Norfolk Southern with @heyjohnrussell. Turns out they want more government action to hold corporations accountable, not less. Full story to come.

Unbelievable.
I very literally don’t believe that anyone actually thinks this way. Just twisted water carrying for capitalism

That’s exactly the point. Book publishing is an industry where all stakeholders win: author, publisher, and reader. All invest energy, and all walk away with value. That is righteous profit. Even Adam Smith, the primary architect of free market capitalism, said it cannot exist outside an ethical context. But hyper capitalism, or crony capitalism, is not that. It is a power and money grab by owners and stockholders at the expense of workers. It is not righteous. It is oppressive and tyrannous. It is corrosive of people’s lives and of our democracy. It is the core principle of this economic era, and that era needs to end.

Hyper capitalism has been weaponized against the people of the United States. An economic system exists to serve the people; people shouldn’t live their lives in service to an economic system. Gotta fix that. cnn.com/2023/02/24/opinions/…

There are things I feel need to be said in America. We’re like an alcoholic family system, with neither Mommy nor Daddy telling us the whole truth, a lot of gaslighting going on, the kids agitated in the presence of all the obvious lies. open.substack.com/pub/marian…

Whether it's the military industrial complex, prison industrial complex, food industrial complex, gun industrial complex, insurance industrial complex, pharmaceutical industrial complex, agricultural industrial complex, fossil fuel industrial complex, banking industrial complex, transportation industrial complex, media industrial complex, or political industrial complex, it's a hegemonic monopolistic sociopathic economic organism with tentacles that are squeezing the life force out of our society. Gotta fix that.

We need to begin a new chapter in American history, with enough of us willing to have a meaningful conversation about what we need to end now and what's struggling to be born. What needs to end is an era of corruption brought about by our second Gilded Age, an era in which corporate profits were placed before the safety, health and well being of people and planet. What needs to be born is an era in which we push back against such institutional abuse, return our government to one "of the people, by the people, and for the people," and replace soulless economic values with humanitarian values that honor us all and the earth on which we live. Other generations before us have done it. Now it's our turn.

Over the last 48 years $50 TRILLION has gone from the bottom 90% to the top 1%. Crony capitalism basically runs this country. It is a system of institutionalized theft.
The upward redistribution of wealth over the past 40 years has shifted $50 trillion from the bottom 90% to the top 1%. That’s $50 trillion that would have gone into the paychecks of working Americans. Trickle-down economics was always a hoax. This has been the agenda all along.

FDR Democrats work unapologetically and unabashedly to support the working people of the United States. But we are only part of the Democratic Party today, as the corporatist wing of the party is all for making people feel better - but only so far as it doesn’t challenge profit maximization for their major corporate donors. Wall Street clearly still owns both major parties - and while the Republicans are definitely much worse, that cannot remain our excuse forever. The point should not be to help people *survive* an unjust system; it should be to *end* an unjust system. In the richest country in the world, the economy shouldn't be so hard for the average American to survive. We need more than the alleviation of stress; we need fundamental economic reform. That is the agenda that will beat the Republicans in 2024.
