Listen to workers and regulate the industry. Listen to workers and regulate the industry. Listen to workers and regulate the industry.

The train, run by Norfolk Southern, derailed in Van Buren Township. We need to listen to rail workers and regulate the industry. Last night rail workers with @railroadworkers published an emergency dispatch below. It's a must read. myemail.constantcontact.com/…

Thank you, Governor. Good man.
Today, I'm announcing I will not issue any execution warrants during my term as Governor. When one comes to my desk, I will sign a reprieve every time — and I’m asking the General Assembly to send me a bill abolishing the death penalty in Pennsylvania once and for all.

Um, no.
Don Lemon: "Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime. Sorry, when a woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s, and 30s, and maybe 40s…" Poppy Harlow: "Are you talking about prime for like child bearing?" "Don’t shoot the messenger! I’m just saying what the facts are! Google it!"

Yes! Bernie Sanders calls the oligarchs to task. I love it so much.
NEW: Starbucks informed @SenSanders they do not intend for CEO Howard Schultz to testify in his Senate hearing on the company’s response to organizing. They want to send a different executive instead. Sanders has said he might try to subpoena Schultz. huffpost.com/entry/starbucks…

I love it I love it I love it. I love it. I love it. This is what happens when you actually wield the power you have, rather than always coming up with spineless excuses for why you just can’t get it done.
BREAKING: Moderna says it will keep its Covid vaccine free for all people in the U.S.—reversing course on its planned 400% price increase—one day after Bernie Sanders said he would force the CEO to testify.

What happened in East Palestine, Ohio is a feature - not a bug - of unfettered, unregulated corporate power. Obama tried to regulate more hazardous material on trains, then ended up caving to railroad industry pressure. Union workers warned about faulty brakes and other safety measures, and the same railroad executives who denied them sick pay ignored their voices. This isn’t about just one incident; it’s about the dictatorial and deadly power of corporations that put their short term profits before the safety, health, and well-being of people and planet. The corrupt system that protects them, We the People need to disrupt.

For 20% of Americans, things are basically okay. If we’re fortunate enough to be in that twenty percent, then yes the economy is doing well. But the lucky ones are on an island, surrounded by a vast ocean of economic despair. My newest substack… open.substack.com/pub/marian…

"America’s CEOs found relief in the theories of an insurgent wave of neoclassical economists pioneering a model of capitalism that came to be known as “neoliberalism.” What emerged was a political project aimed at restoring the full-throated power of the wealthy, whose playbook included: decreased public spending, greater privatization, increased deregulation of banking and financial markets, slashed taxes, and pulverizing attacks on organized labor. Since then, our economy has indeed been reshaped. At the bottom, growing parts of the workforce are now non-unionized, low-wage, often part-time, and regularly without benefits like health care, paid sick leave, or retirement plans. This labor crisis has been accompanied by an unprecedented $15 trillion-plus in personal (including mounting medical and student) debt. As a result (as I wrote in 2021 with Astra Taylor), 'millions of Americans aren’t just poor; they have less than nothing. The American dream is no longer owning a house with a white picket fence; it is getting out of debt. In one of the richest countries in the world, millions of people now aspire to have zero dollars.'" - Liz Theoharis
