Huge. Important. Good.
New Hampshire's largest union announced Tuesday that it is not endorsing Biden, saying, "New Hampshire voters deserve a competitive Democratic Primary." #NHPolitics @NHDems @DNC nbcnews.com/politics/2024-el…

Today is International Workers Day, and the labor movement is rising in this country in a way it hasn't in decades. A new generation has realized that the economic injustice now baked into the cake will not be expunged from the system without a strong labor movement. It's all a part of #ANewBeginning and a season of repair. jacobin.com/2023/05/labor-mo…

According to economist Richard Wolff, the 62 richest people in the world (most of whom are American) own more wealth than the bottom half of the world’s population.

According to much of the mainstream media, President Biden’s opponents simply do not exist. Speaking for myself, that is not what most bothers me… What bothers me is that to them, the poor do not exist. The chronic anxiety of those struggling to make ends meet does not exist. Hungry children in America do not exist. The corruption of their corporate sponsors does not exist. The destruction of the earth does not exist. Of course they seek to invisible-ize those who bring up such inconvenient topics. The derision of the status quo’s gatekeepers: almost a badge of honor in a world where the status quo is such a cesspool of denial and naïveté about the state of our country and the risks to our world.

To be clear: The “anti-science” candidate is one who would increase oil drilling and approve the Willow Project, given that the majority of scientists of the world are urging us to ramp down fossil fuel extraction immediately. The “pro-science” candidate one who would cancel the Willow project on her first day in office. The “anti-medicine” candidate is one who will not support a public option, and says he’d refuse to sign a Medicare For All bill. The “pro-medicine” candidate is someone who stands for universal healthcare. Smears do not change the truth; they just obscure it. But only for so long.

Yep. A blatant lie. When they say “he has no challengers,” they mean he has no challengers that THEY approve of! To them, a “qualified challenger” is someone who will effectuate and perpetuate the system as it is… the system within which they themselves are doing fine. That they call themselves champions of democracy is an increasingly tenuous description.
.@JaneMayerNYer, I have enjoyed your podcast 'The Political Scene' until the current episode in which you tell the blatant LIE that @JoeBiden has NO primary opponent, knowing full well he has TWO: @MarWilliamson & @RobertKennedyJr. It is journalistic malfeasance to ignore them.

It IS brazen robbery, but when brazen robbery is institutionalized - as in the case of pharmaceutical companies - it’s simply called “the free market.” Free market fundamentalism justifies its frequent cruelty by claiming an action is “what the market will bear,” but Adam Smith, capitalism’s original architect, said “free market capitalism cannot exist outside an ethical context.” Pushing back against the tyranny of unfettered capitalism is to take a stand for justice. The tentacles of endless corporate greed now touch every aspect of our lives, having damaged our democracy, destroyed our middle class, and desecrated our environment. It’s the task of this generation to say “Enough.”

Republicans offer no relief at all, while Democrats are bragging that they achieved a $35/mo cap on insulin for those over 65. Okay, let’s break that down. That would still be $420 a year, and half of America’s seniors live on less than $25,000 a year. There are over 3 million insulin users over age 65, so if you multiply the 3 million by $420 that’s still a sweet profit for the pharmaceutical companies each year. And the situation gets worse. There are another over 5 million Americans needing insulin who are UNDER 65. Many are rationing their insulin, choosing on any given month whether to buy their insulin or pay their rent. This does not happen in countries where there is universal healthcare…which includes every advanced democracy except ours. What kind of “free market”leaves millions of people living their lives imprisoned behind the invisible walls of economic hardship? Millions of Americans have been trained to expect too little, numbed by a chronic, gnawing state of low-grade need to simply accept what they are given. They receive so little, and deserve so much more. #MedicareForAll (Gee, I wonder why the DNC doesn’t want to hold debates...)

Some people think it's naive to think we could organize ourselves as a civilization along lines of compassion and collaboration. What's naive is to think humanity will survive another 100 years on this planet if we don't at least try.
