Hard to take a dinner honoring press freedom seriously when the name Julian Assange isn’t even mentioned.

There are deeper systemic causes beneath the sea of America’s economic despair.

I never said any such thing. I never wrote any such thing, and I never thought any such thing. No one who actually knows my work has ever gotten that message from me. Ever.

“That is why we need to say with the Prophet: "What doth the Lord require of thee—but to do justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with thy God." That is why the recovery we seek, the recovery we are winning, is more than economic. In it are included justice and love and humility, not for ourselves as individuals alone, but for our Nation. That is the road to peace.” —- Franklin Roosevelt Address Announcing the Second New Deal

The idea that a woman shouldn’t shouldn’t weigh in on the state of our children because “she’s not a biological mother“ is abhorrent.

“Just as rape is about power and control, so is this total ban,” McLeod said Thursday. “Those who continue to push legislation like this are raping us again with their indifference, violating us again with their righteous indignation, taunting us again with their insatiable need to play God while they continue to pass laws that are ungodly.”

“The only thing that we can do when you all, you men in the chamber, metaphorically keep slapping women by raising abortion again and again and again, is for us to slap you back with our words,” Senn said. pbs.org/newshour/politics/so…

The best way to prepare for a thriving economy 20 years from now is to take better care of our 10 year olds today.

Martin Luther King Junior said “the desegregation of the American South is the political externalization of the goal of the civil rights movement, but the real goal is the establishment of the Beloved Community.” That needs to be our goal too. it’s not enough to understand that the social atomization created by a an economically dog eat dog world is destroying us. We need to understand why it’s destroying us - why an economics that favors a few at the expense of the many is counter to our natural state of being. We are hardwired to love one another, and systems that do not honor that inevitably crumble and fall. We can begin again, and course-correct. We can take the best of modern civilization and marry it to the truth in our hearts - to the imperatives of justice and compassion and our desire for belonging. Then we will achieve the Beloved Community. Then we will repair the world. #ANewBeginning
