I. never. ever. ever. said. that. What I said was that with enough love we would all get through it. From holding people’s hands (and yes, praying with them) as they lay dying, to officiating at funerals, to founding a non-profit that has now served 16 million meals to homebound patients, I did everything in my power to make good on that promise.

Authoritarianism attacks democracy from the outside, while neoliberalism erodes it from the inside. There is no way to effectively deal with one without dealing with the other. One is a disease; the other, a systemic weakening of the immune system in a way that strengthens the disease.

How are you going to “push him to the left” if you won’t even vote against him in a primary? Asking for a friend.

There is an alternative.
🧵 1/8 Joe Biden has recently announced his campaign for re-election, but we must not overlook the crucial labor issues his administration has ignored.

The candidate running on an Economic Bill of Rights would be me.

I absolutely will. I've been speaking out about it for a while, and today I met with Stop Cop City activists here in Atlanta. I'm impressed by students at Emory and Georgia Tech who have protested it as well.

Saddens me too. And motivates me, actually.
I’m sincerely saddened by a world in which “left” activists run cover for Biden as he crushes rail strikes, opens up drilling in the arctic, and betrays the George Floyd movement because … “new age” something something. Some of us still think ideas like universal healthcare deserve a hearing in the richest country in the history of the world.

With the fascists at the door, the last thing we should do is limit the conversation about how to defeat them. The assumption that Joe Biden is necessarily our best bet in 2024 should be vigorously challenged. He should face his primary challengers in a meaningful debate.

Shocking, I tell you. Just shocking.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 25, 2023 STATEMENT FROM MARIANNE WILLIAMSON ON JOE BIDEN'S 2024 CAMPAIGN LAUNCH: For those of us committed to Democrats winning the White House in 2024, the president’s campaign announcement today was concerning. His remark that he has fought so that everyone "is given a fair shot" contradicts his refusal to fight for a higher minimum wage, permanentize the child tax credit, or side with railroad workers trying to negotiate for sick pay. His saying that he “knows America” doesn’t seem to include his knowing the 39% of Americans who report skipping meals to pay rent, the one in four Americans living with medical debt, or an entire generation concerned that the tepid efforts of his administration to fight the climate crisis will rob them of a habitable planet. His saying that this is “not a time to be complacent” about threats to our democracy does not seem to include standing for the democratic process when it comes to choosing the Democratic nominee. The Democratic Party establishment has indicated it is planning to subvert the primary process by shoe-horning Biden into the nomination, and Americans most concerned about our democracy must not let this happen. With over 50% of Democrats, and 70% of all Americans making it clear they wish to see someone other than Biden run against the Republicans in 2024, it is imperative that the voters hear from all candidates running in this primary - not just the President. I look forward to a robust debate with Joe Biden, as I present to the American people my platform of fundamental economic reform as a far better way to win the White House in 2024 than the president’s incremental approach to governing. At such a critical time in our country, neither the President nor the DNC has the right to determine who and who is not a serious candidate. That is the right of the people alone.
