The government should be the servant of the people. Are you so naïve as to think the government is not now an overly generous mommy and daddy to major multinational corporations?

The purpose of government should be to set people up to win… to support a person’s dreams, not thwart them. In too many ways now the system actually sets people up to lose. College loan debt is an example. It’s a predatory system that should never have existed to begin with.

People were told to close the wage gap by getting a higher education. They tried to better themselves & create more economic opportunity. Those loans should never have existed! The GI Bill helped create a great middle class. Lack of higher ed opportunity helped destroy it.

Freedom is radical. It takes a lot of faith in the goodness of people to assume that if supported in self-actualizing they will create a beautiful society. That's why people who believe in the notion of a sinful humanity have a hard time embracing the notion of freedom for all

A little bit of a change here and a little bit of a change there is not fundamental economic reform. As long as the underlying premise is that if corporations do well then the country does well, then corporations might win but the people will lose.

Good point. I agree with you. Without the latter, the former fails.

Many look at the possibilities for a genuinely multi-cultural, multi-religious, multi-ethnic melding as the highest actualization of the American experiment. But some see that as the complete annihilation of what they think of as their identity and power. Therein lies the clash

Modern capitalism displaced people, and the pseudo-intellectual pseudo-sophisticated displacers thought there would be no price to pay for that. Extraordinary naïveté.

I don't think so. Read a bit about Germany in the '30's and you wouldn't either.

It's amazing how often those who led us into spectacular military and economic disasters over the last few decades are brought onto cable television as experts so we can all hear what they have to say.

Correct. That's why it's so important to protect our democracy.
