There are serious progressives in DC, even in Congress, trying hard every day. They may or may not always do what we want, but to act like we know everything and they're all bad and stupid, is simplistic at best and ridiculous at worst.

Inside/outside strategy. Hitler was democratically elected. If we put our focus either entirely on the inside or entirely on the outside, we fail. Either without the other is an inadequate response to the challenge.

No I did not. Ever. Although I prayed with people for a cure, as did priests, ministers, rabbis etc. all over the world. The Pope as well if I remember correctly. You lie about and mischaracterize someone else’s career so casually. “Good God.”

There are people whose ideas I respect sometimes even when I come to a different conclusion based on the same facts. I think it’s intellectually dangerous when any of us think we have a monopoly on the truth.

You say that is though it’s some breakthrough understanding. This isn’t about what “they” deserve, it’s about what we deserve.

But faced without reality I still think our highest priority has to be avoiding the catastrophe.

Kind of my point. Also why we need to elect *progressive* Democrats in their primaries. Candidatesummit.com

So you think everybody in Japan should have a military style assault weapon to stave off an imagined Chinese invasion?

They’ve been talking about a red wave in the midterms for so long, but decision to repeal Roe v. Wade decision & Uvalde aftermath should change that. The people still need to rise up against fascism even when the party that should be doing so far more vigorously refuses to do so.

That doesn’t just stunt discourse, it stunts the country. But it’s all the more reason to connect with people with whom there is a basic alliance of values.

There are a lot of things they could bring up as single issues. Also, Biden could declare a medical emergency and expand Medicare, declare an environmental emergency and warp speed a green energy grid, and declassify marijuana from a schedule one drug.
