The Right has a blind spot concerning the imperialistic tendencies of America’s military establishment, but the Left as a blind spot concerning Russia’s. Mate has already said he had thought Putin would not invade, and that he was wrong.

Not that I know of, except when they were deployed on humanitarian missions after natural catastrophes.

I sure as hell can. The misuse of the military is anathema to me as it should be to anyone, but its legitimate use is part of any adult conversation. I’m not suggesting however that we put boots on the ground in Ukraine.

2/ Yet now, with Ukrainians at risk of being slaughtered en masse by a madman, there’s not more we could do and could have done to help them defend themselves?

1/ $780 billion a year is our military budget. We invaded Iraq although it never did anything to us. We stayed in Afghanistan at least 10 years longer than we needed to, doing nothing to bolster a democratic government.

Excellent choice and very exciting.
I’m proud to announce that I am nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the Supreme Court. Currently serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, she is one of our nation’s brightest legal minds and will be an exceptional Justice. WhiteHouse.gov/KBJ

Hitler acted in accordance with his stated goals. That didn't make him a rational actor.

Chuck Todd just asked a Russian opposition politician if he thinks Putin is a "rational actor." No one who preemptively, without provocation invades another country (including Bush and Cheney) should be considered a rational actor.

Transitioning from a dirty economy to a clean economy needs to go hand in hand with transitioning from a war economy to a peace economy. Our survival depends on the willingness to embrace that level of fundamental change.

For 50 yrs we bought the illusion that mutual assured destruction keeps everyone safe. That only works when leaders are sane enough to put preserving life before accumulating power. If any good comes from this, it will be awakening to the sheer insanity of nukes existing at all.

It was on the fly. From now on I'll use the trendy pseudo-sophisticated term "mass psychosis formation" and everyone will think I'm really smart like they are!
