Humanity can be so beautiful.
Sidney Poitier — choking up, describing how a kind co-worker offered to teach him how to read as an adult — is one powerful moment. From 2013. (via @CBSSunday) #RIPSidneyPoitier 🙏🏼

When government is in bed with corporations like this, it’s a classic definition of fascism. theintercept.com/2022/01/08/…

No need to “show how it’s done.” He could declare a national Medical Emergency and expand Medicare with the power he has as president; he could cancel all college loan debt with the power he has as president; and he could use the bully pulpit to support the Pro Act if he chose to

If that’s the case, shouldn’t you have expanded Medicare by now, cancelled the college loan debt by now, and actively supported the PRO-ACT by now?

The MIC tells the Pentagon “You need new equipment.” The Pentagon says “What should we do with the old stuff?” The MIC says “If you can’t scramble up another war, just send it to the guys back home.” stephensemler.substack.com/p…

We need to follow the lead of the farmworkers themselves. But we can begin by people in California and Maine contacting their governors to protest their vetoes.

BREAKING: Appalled that Navy Secretary Carlos del Toro (@SECNAV) is still refusing to close leaking jet fuel tanks in Hawaii that are poisoning the drinking water of 400,000 people. He's also defying the state's Governor. Blistering arrogance. Hawaii is not a colony. @oahuWP

Either that or Hillary would’ve fairly won the primary, in which case more Dems would’ve felt good about the process and she would’ve won the general. Either way, the DNC helped Trump win by suppressing the vote for Bernie.

Learning our real history doesn’t divide us; it informs us. The divide occurs when some people understand the past and try to reckon with it, while others are blissfully unaware and continue to perpetuate its sins.
“Teaching Native history divides South Dakotans.” Also, in South Dakota 👇🏾

I remember the grape boycott in support of Caesar Chavez and the California farmworkers. Give us the signal and we’ll do it again.
Within just months of one another, the Democratic governors of California & Maine have each vetoed bills that’d have enabled or made it easier for farmworkers to unionize.

We have a legacy of injustices in this country, but we also have a legacy of people who've powerfully pushed back against them. It's our turn now. My conversation with the fantastic @ninaturner on @TheYoungTurks youtube.com/watch?v=ae-uIbnC…
