Tell the DOJ to stop the gross injustice perpetrated by Chevron against @SDonziger, to take his case back into the US justice system & stop this gross violation of his human rights. The hypocrisy of the US government sometimes knows no bounds. Call Merrick Garland at 202-353-1555

The only rational conclusion.

Because money has so corrupted American politics that our elected representatives bow more to the will of their corporate donors than to the will of their constituency.

Good.
Young activists are calling for "an end to climate betrayal" on day two of #COP26. "We are tired of being called an inspiration and we are tired of being told to keep up the hope."

Right. Funny that.
Weird how all the “Dems need to reconnect with the non-college educated working class” punditry never seems to include supporting the huge wave of union strikes going on right now

I wonder what people think we were doing there for twenty years….

"It was a mistake. It was mistake," reiterates Lt. Gen. Said, briefing reporters on his independent investigation into the Aug. 29 air strike in Kabul that killed 10 innocent civilians, including 7 children.

Except that his personality could not be more of a mismatch with Japanese temperament. They value respect shown in personal dealings with people

The thinking for decades has been that as long as they raised enough money it wouldn't really matter what people wanted. Perhaps that will start to change now. Serving the people more than serving the donors would be a paradigm shift at this point

So a small group of paternalistic elite who have destroyed the planet are coming together to determine how to fix the problem and the people who are mainly hurt by their malfeasance are considered the riffraff who must remain outside while they do. Do I have that right?
#COP26 is turning into most exclusive COP over the past decade. Observers are barred for now from any access to entire negotiating area despite so many reassurances from @COP26 and @UNFCCC Sec. Even first days of Copenhagen compare better. Here comes a short thread with context

The fact that people of such gargantuan wealth can dominate and influence human civilization the way they do is obscene; the fact that a government allows it is pathetic.
Wealth of Mark Zuckerberg in 2009: $2 billion Wealth of Mark Zuckerberg today: $122 billion   Yes. It's time to break up Facebook, break up Big Tech & demand that the wealthy & powerful pay their fair share of taxes. We cannot continue to let Facebook put profits over safety.

This says something very important: that how people *felt* about something *was* the disaster. That's why people with little emotional intelligence - i.e. most politicians & pundits - don't have a clue what is happening in this country.
Many disasters followed the 2008 financial crisis. But possibly the worst was the mass popular disillusionment that resulted from Barack Obama’s failure to help the victims and punish the wrongdoers — a failure that led to Donald Trump. jacobinmag.com/2021/11/meltd…
