This. Has. Got. To. Stop.
Merrick Garland should make a speech about this immediately. Silence on the part of officialdom is totally and completely unacceptable.
Three police officers went to an *elementary* school in Tennessee & arrested four Black girls.
One girl fell to her knees. Another threw up. Police handcuffed the youngest, an 8 yo with pigtails.
Their supposed crime? Watching some boys fight — and not stopping them. (THREAD)
I’ve written 14 books and written hundreds of articles; find once where I mentioned crystals. I’ve given thousands of talks and taught live & online classes; find once where I mentioned crystals. You’re not one to lecture me about fact-based analysis.
I’ve had some success in my life & I’ve analyzed things present in each case. #1: Someone helped me. #2: Someone helped me. #3: Someone helped me. The notion that it’s wrong to help people is so immoral & mean spirited. Never applied to the rich by the way, but only to the poor.
Those things did not happen because we helped people; Great Society programs helped to alleviate poverty, not exacerbate it. They happened because we started withholding help, with a massive transfer of wealth into the hands of 1% that began in 1980.
Quite the opposite. Using taxpayer money to support the quality of life for one’s citizens is not a prelude to communism, but withholding such support is a prelude to fascism.
That is not basic economics, it is soulless nonsense posing as economic theory. Every human being is born with a God-given desire to create. Check your theory against any Montessori kindergarten.
I have seen no evidence to support the notion that little in the bill goes toward helping people. Child tax credit, paid family leave, child care, dental and eye and hearing care, definitely help people.
Given that $3.5 trillion was already a compromise, whittling the package down to $1.5T is a kick in the teeth to people in this country who genuinely need help. thenation.com/article/politi…
We’re not allowed to question the military budget even with all our military disasters. Yet we must discuss how the price tag for helping people thrive is way too high.
Why is the media talking exclusively about the cost of the Build Back Better bill, while almost entirely ignoring what's in it?
— Child care
— Universal pre-K
— Free community college
— Paid leave
— Medicare expansion
All policies that a majority of the American people support.
