It should basically be replaced, like the steam engine. There should be a warp speed effort to justly transition from fossil fuel extraction to green energy. The fossil fuel industry could and should lead the effort, whereas now they simply thwart it.

Really? What do you call Hitler's power over people, or even Trump's for that matter, if not "a compelling charm which inspire devotion in others?" Calling it bs is a pseuo-intellectual's cover for a feeling of utter powerlessness in understanding or dealing with it.
