The various aspects of the chaos we’re experiencing are interconnected. There’s no single problem and no single answer, but economic anxiety makes most problems worse and ameliorating it makes more problems solvable.

They still haven’t fixed the water in #FlintWaterCrisis
"You see my arms? They're still breaking out, it takes everything I got to keep my skin on my bones from taking a shower in that shit...my hair is falling out all over again" -Flint's Virginia Murphy shows ACTIVE rashes from city water—& she's not the only one #FlintWaterCrisis

Thank you but I disagree. The economic/political system we have right now has devastated our democracy and our planet. Let’s stop pretending it’s a bunch of sophisticated thinkers running things.

There would’ve been less despair, less eviction crisis, less trauma for kids, less hunger, less homelessness. All huge issues.

Kids with Covid going into hospitals: midtern polls looking bad for Democrats. None of this had to happen. All they had to do was pay $2000 a month for everyone to stay home until this was over and we would be infinitely better off right now.

Nature knows how to organize itself. A principle of Non-violence is that “self-purification precedes political action.” We prepare ourselves spiritually in order to have the greatest influence politically. That’s where the personal meets the political.

Gandhi said the leader of the Indian independence movement was “the small still voice within.” A leader doesn’t create such a movement; leaders emerge from such a movement. And they already are. A profound reaction to the dystopia of this moment is gestating in millions of hearts

It’s also aberrational in terms of American history. From early evangelicals & Abolition to Quakers & women Suffrage to King’s non-violence & the civil rights movement, spirituality has been at the heart of every great social justice movement in the history of the United States.

FDR was rich. Bobby Kennedy was rich. For that matter, Buddha started out rich. Someone’s suffering and ability to relate to the suffering of others is a more reliable indicator of their political values than how much money they have.

From 1619 until 1865, millions of Americans were enslaved in this country, and I could mention other ways too in which we have been through terrible things and done terrible things before. We corrected them then and I think we’re going to correct them now.
