Because I haven’t found it to be inhumane.

2/ For those who read “A Return to Love,” that was when I got stood up by the guy who went to the opening ceremonies:) Never got so much mileage from a bad night. 😉

1/ In 1984 the Olympics were in Los Angeles and everybody acted like it was going to be awful and overcrowded and wanted to leave town. I don’t know why. I went to one of the events and it was something I’ll never forget. The energy was extraordinary.

What it takes to be on an Olympic team is so much work, so much hardship, so much sacrifice and so much excellence. These athletes are amazing. The opening ceremony almost makes me wanna cry.

It’s so important realize that in the ‘60s and ‘70s things were not like this. That doesn’t mean they were perfect (especially for POC), but the widespread systemic economic oppression did not exist. The massive transfer of wealth into the hands of 1% have not yet begun.
In the 1960s, renters paid around 15% of their income on rent; homelessness was *not* widespread. Nowadays, renters in high cost cities like NYC pay over 30% of their income on rent; homelessness *is* widespread. Housing costs is the primary driver of homelessness. Debate over.

Yes it’s true.
Congress just added $25 Billion to the Pentagon’s already insane budget. For $25 Billion we could: - Give clean water to the world for a year - End US homelessness - End world hunger for over 6 months - Fund a global project to deal w/ the climate crisis Instead… more war.

I recommend Dennis Kucinich‘s new book for an amazing explanation of all this. m.barnesandnoble.com/w/the-d…
Incredible piece today from @leee_harris. A private equity firm named Bernhard Capital is seeking to take leases on municipal water & power systems in poor cities, the newest financial industry assault on democracy. Lee talked to Bernhard about their aims. prospect.org/infrastructure/…

He’s right!
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! I explained why this is madness and completely wrong from the White House, on @PodSaveAmerica, yesterday - watch me briefly break it down:

I like creative differences. You’re a cynic compared to me:)

I so wish I didn’t agree.
What’s confounding is the idea of out-organizing suppression to win power when you won’t then use that power to relieve suppression.

I don’t see it that way. The level of athletic excellence on display is amazing! There can be a high side to competition.

The Olympics represent an ancient effort to reconcile among nations. As corrupt as they can get at times (like now), they answer to a deep seated yearning for international cooperation. At best, they reflect an antidote to war. I’m all for keeping the dream alive.

This is amazing. I’m such a sucker for this.

If the only way we can create jobs is by subsidizing defense manufacturers then this country is in such sad shape. Ever heard of a #GreenNewDeal instead? responsiblestatecraft.org/20…
