A “1st Principle” which should be taught to every American child growing up - but that somehow seems to have fallen by the wayside - is commitment to individual liberty balanced with concern for the common good. It will take years but we need to radically shore up the common good

Thank you, Dan.

For decades America has been diminishing its commitment to what was once a pretty robust system of agencies that protected the common good. So many, like the government itself, are just hostages now to corporate control. #RiseUpPeople and #TakeItBack.

Any illusion of an American safety net” has been thrown out the window for anyone with open eyes. Our system is now set up to protect only the rich & powerful, leaving the vast majority to fend for themselves. An emergency arrived & the system did not bend. Always, profits first.

We will be dealing with the after effects of Covid for years to come, reflected in various aspects of a broken life. Those with money were able to sail through, while those without it were wounded in many ways worse than just physical. America was tested and boy did we ever fail.

Now that Covid is waning we can get some perspective on what might’ve been different. So many capitalist chiefs, celebrities, billionaires etc. could have called for a $2k/mo. while it lasted - no skin off their teeth. They could have ameliorated so much suffering & chose not to.

There you have it. Policies that consistently make it easier for the ultra rich to get richer does not “lift all boats.” It’s not good economic policy; it’s theft from the middle class and poor in order to serve the endless greed of a tiny few.
One of the biggest myths is that billionaires are job creators 1999: 50 billionaires, 4.3% unemployment rate 2019: 607 billionaires, 3.7% unemployment Now: 719 billionaires, 6.1% unemployment In the pandemic, billionaire wealth grew 55% while the number of jobs dropped 5%

I think two things are happening at once: a great devolution on the part of old systems and structures as well as a great evolution in the direction of a freer & more sustainable world.

It’s time to move beyond the status quo in #Israel & #Palestine. I spoke with @raedjarrar & @joshlockman to discuss needed changes in US policy. @jstreetdotorg @DAWNmenaorg Spotify: spoti.fi/3hWEHPt YouTube: youtube.com/WnIaxI22wQA

Lots of people talk about it. But that doesn’t make what Lukashenko did any less awful.

What Lukashenko did to Protasevich any autocratic leader will do to anyone. If independent journalists aren’t safe then no one is safe. @anneapplebaum #Protasevich #Lukashenko #FreeAssange theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv…
