That’s true, but chronic economic anxiety plaguing tens of millions of American families exacerbates that situation. Statistically, poverty & near poverty leads to increased childhood abuse and neglect.
We definitely know how to get started. Stop funding schools based on property taxes. Eradicate standardized testing. Much smaller class size. Social & emotional learning. School wraparound services. Trauma informed education. More funding for the humanities. More funding period.
A politics based on how we might more effectively care for each other rather than on ways we might more effectively compete with each other (and if deemed necessary even kill each other) is hardly naive. In fact it is the only survivable option for the human race.
If we made it our goal to provide every possible opportunity for a child to receive maximal care, nurturing and education before the age of 10, our society would be radically different within 20 years.
Large groups of desperate people should always be considered a risk, whether in a corner of an American city or in another part of the world. Wherever we allow desperation to breed we’re passively planting the invisible roots of future conflict. #WagePeace
Desperation breeds hate and hate breeds hate groups. Until we’re willing to assuage the desperation we’ll always be faced with the effects of the hate.
Both peoples are fighting for their security and both people are fighting for land. I do not minimize Israel’s security issues, but what kind of security is experienced by someone living under occupation? That’s a security issue too.
But “security assistance to Israel” in the form of what amounts to a blank check for military expenditures only disincentivizes them from having to address underlying injustices. Ultimately the only security for Israel will come from providing equal security to the Palestinians.
