Not defending the way we exited (particularly not prioritizing vulnerable women for evacuation). But neither Vietnam, Iraq nor Afghanistan were "skirmishes." Done with this thread. All best.
No it's not. To say a bloated $780B military budget has more to do with short term profits for military industrial complex than with strategizing a more peaceful world doesn't mean you're an isolationist. It just means you don't think brute force is the only arrow in our quiver.
There's more return on investment from a peace economy - investments in education, health, economic opportunities - than from a defense economy. We need a just transition to a peace economy NOW!
Correction: we're not stupid. But there's a difference between a "robust" military, & one that's twice as big as any other in the world yet clearly has no particular strategic success during three wars in a row. Does more to hurt us in relation to those countries than to help us.
The money is for "additional submarines, planes and combat vehicles." Excuse me, for what? For where? For why? Not that we don't trust you guys or anything...
Bipartisan support for a $24B amendment to the defense budget. No one should delude themselves that our exit from Afghanistan means the US war machine is slowing down. cnn.com/2021/09/01/politics/…
Inconceivable, given extreme weather catastrophies happening this very minute, that anyone could argue we need to “slow down” plans that include efforts to fight climate change. @Sen_JoeManchin
Breaking News: Joe Manchin says we should take a “pause” in the $3.5 trillion budget plan. I had a very unladylike, inelegant and thoroughly appropriate reaction. news.yahoo.com/manchin-democ…
