We need to move from a dirty economy to a clean economy, from a war economy to a peace economy, and from a sickness care system to a true healthcare system. Ultimately our lives and the lives of our children will depend on it.

It’s not just people in other countries affected by this corruption. First it’s money siphoned off from domestic spending, plus last year’s model of equipment - constantly & unnecessarily replaced - is then sent home to local police forces, thus the militarization of our police.

The ultimate triumph of the military industrial complex is that we now have a generation of Americas who as often as not seem to see no problem whatsoever with the outsize influence of defense contractors on our military policy...and military budget.

For people with experience in the military to serve on boards of defense contractors is appropriate enough, but for people who serve on the board of military contractors to lead the military is not appropriate. Yet that interaction has so become the norm.

Unbelievable question.

Why do we have a $760B defense budget while some of our schools don’t even have school supplies & people lack healthcare? In part because we spend hundreds of billions of dollars every year above & beyond what the Pentagon even says it needs. This has nothing to do with security!

We have such a war economy that $.53 of every $ spent is defense related. But money spent on education & infrastructure is actually a more lucrative investment & defense jobs could be re-purposed for peace-related activities. We need to move from a war economy to a peace economy

Defense contractors have such a hold on American military policy that an element of war profiteering is laced into the way we function. We need a movement for peace that is equivalent to the environmental movement. The Right is okay with what is & the Left has basically given up.

Per this story, @BernieSanders has been talking to Biden about the next stimulus package including "an emergency universal health care program, so that anyone can get medical treatment during the pandemic, whether they currently have insurance or not." nytimes.com/2021/01/12/us/po…

Dual endorsement! Two great candidates primarying Steny Hoyer: the first Black & Queer woman running in her district @MeetMckayla & America’s youngest Black mayor @MayorByrd. Both are great progressives! Let’s help them compete with Hoyer's PAC avalanche: bit.ly/2FFYK09

After 9/11 we recognized all the terrible ways our agencies had ignored warning signs, created DHS for billions of dollars to make sure a mistake could never happen again. And yet... nytimes.com/2021/01/12/us/fb…

I hope that’s $2000 every month until the pandemic ends. A one time payment is not enough.

Senate Democrats should quickly pass HR1 and anything else that compensates for SCOTUS having chipped away at the Voting Rights Act. The most important solution to any assault on our democracy is to strengthen our democracy.
