Hospitals asked for an additional $35B in order to provide services for the Covid pandemic, but the current relief bill provides $3B. Out of $900B+, $3B for hospitals already overwhelmed by the crisis. Doctors, nurses and patients will suffer.
The problems I mention here will remain after Jan 20, many exacerbated by the pandemic. We the People stepped in to deny Trump a second term, but we need to retain our passion & continue stepping up in order to truly change the direction of the country.
That works if you think we have two years to create fundamental change. I don’t. I think the Democrats have 100 days to prove to the American people that they present a compelling alternative vision to what the Republicans offer. And I don’t see evidence for your first assertion.
“In the past 4 years the Trump administration has reversed or weakened more than 130 environmental protections & regulations, according to a WaPo analysis, with plans to target nearly a dozen more by mid-January.” I hope Regan will act boldly and quickly. washingtonpost.com/climate-e…
Democracy is messy, the freedom to exchange ideas is messy & the emergence of new possibilities is messy. Any system or institution that seeks to hold on to mechanisms of control out of fear that any mess might threaten their power, is a conduit not of progress but of stagnation.
Refusing to allow the present to be different than the past is a resistance to new beginnings & a guarantee of stagnation. Every generation & every phase of life brings with it new gifts that should not be refused. Change can’t happen in places where we don’t make room for change
I voted for Joe Biden because I think he is an infinitely superior choice to Donald Trump. That one was not hard. Supporting Biden, I also made it clear that I would not be quiet about things once the election was over. And I am not.
She is absolutely not human trash; she’s a good woman who has done a lot of good things. All that’s going on here is that a lot of us deeply disagree with her. That position does not have to include personal demonization. We have to be above that.
Those whose careers have been ensconced within a system that led us into a ditch should not be considered the only people qualified to get us out of it.
A leadership team of Biden and Pelosi Is so ensconced in the politics of the past as to be an inadequate container for energies needed in the future. It represents a moderate Democratic approach that will be easily knocked aside by Republican radicals in ‘22.
The idea that disagreeing with an elected official means you’re being “disruptive” is preposterous in a democracy. The idea that you have to go along with the party line in a non-election season “for the sake of unity” is ridiculous. Fundamental pattern disruption is called for.
If you take nothing else from our story, take this quote from Chicago West side resident Rochelle Sykes:
“If you can come up with a vaccine in a year, why are we sitting in a community where there is no grocery store with fresh fruits and vegetables.”
