I hope that whoever the new Attorney General is, he or she will appoint a special commission to #ReformThePolice culture and police training. And not just a commission that “recommends” and then gets put on a shelf! Something with real teeth. Anything less than that is inadequate

From what I’ve read, it can cause serious physical damage. Major bolts of electricity! And there are clearly many instances of it being used unnecessarily.

Tasing can cause serious damage, even death. None of us should be OK with its use by police in anything but the most necessary circumstances. nytimes.com/article/police-t…

Anyone who thinks we don’t have a problem with policing in this country needs to look at this. As painful as it is to watch we need to be aware that something is very wrong and must be addressed. By all of us. Now.

I don’t remember a #ReformThePolice hashtag ever being used on a massive scale. Maybe that’s just me. And reform goes much deeper than money. The training is inadequate and police culture is infiltrated by some very dangerous forces. Way more than defunding is needed.

A transformation to a fairer economy would not hurt your family economically unless you are very wealthy. It would in no way lessen your ability to feed your family, no matter how much you have. It would mean one less penthouse for a billionaire who already has three of them.

I agree, and it’s a huge issue. Budget diminishment should definitely be involved. But it alone doesn’t speak to the deeper level problem, which is police culture.

They could get less money and still be just as mean, and some of them could be just as murderous.

I think it’s an unwise slogan because it miscommunicates. Less $ for police wouldn’t have saved George Floyd, Breonna Taylor or Philippe Castille etc. It alone doesn’t get to the core problem: corrupted police culture & inadequate training. #ReformThePolice sounds better to me.

Maybe it’s because we have a well honed sense of social justice, having been persecuted for years by anti-Semites such as you.

No they did not all earn it - and much was earned at the expense of the middle class & poor. The problem is not that some people can get rich – that’s a good thing; the problem is that not enough people today can get rich - too few can get into the game - and that’s a bad thing.

When corporations paid higher taxes they did not leave, and paying much lower taxes has not kept them from leaving.

My grandparents were immigrants & yours probably were too. Historically immigrants have done more to contribute to this country than to take from it. Unless we’re descended from enslaved people or Native Americans all of us are descended from those who came here for a better life

We need to articulate a new and different story... to say what we want, to keep saying it, and to increase the resonance of a new conversation. That’s how things that begin by sounding outlandish become in time to be seen for what they are: common sense.
