"We must make a choice. We may have democracy or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." - Louis Brandeis. Wealth inequality has increased for 40 yrs w/ both Repub & Dem presidents, leading to unsustainable levels of hardship among too many

There is a low level depression that is endemic to our society due to the fact that collectively we are guided not by love but by money, dedicated less to community than to corporate profits. It’s not fixed by a lifestyle shift; it calls for recognition of a huge systemic error.

I agree that a former Dupont executive should not be on the transition team, and I know Obama signed the Monsanto protection act. But Biden has indeed talked about the environment as the largest existential crisis we face. Not time yet to be so pessimistic I don’t think.

He hasn’t appointed a new head of the EPA yet has he? So why are you so certain about Dupont and Monsanto?

Nope. Have not. There are crazy people everywhere of course, but we’re not the ones walking around with A.R. 15’s and AK-47s. Just saying.

I love the the story of the little boy and a lot of starfish on a beach. He picked one up and threw it back into the sea. A grown-up pointed out he couldn't really make much difference because there were so many of them. He said "Well it makes a difference to that one."

That's the point. It clearly had to do with my not appreciating Trump's presidency but I think it went further. I think we might underestimate some of what's going on out there. I've been slightly shuddering all day at the thought that we have reached such a place as a society.

A woman on twitter today told me that she used to be a big fan, but that now she realizes I'm "one of them" and should be placed under house arrest. She wasn't kidding.

I agree with you although I don’t think it trivializes those disorders to point out the other issue. Both are very true and both are very real. Big Pharma has a beneficial place in treating the former, but has staked out a very illegitimate profit center overtreating the latter.

Be careful with that one Senator. Big Pharma would love to take it over for you. The best mental health services are #Medicare4All, #CancelStudentDebt & easier access to education. Treat people’s despair by taking away their hopelessness; that’s the best mental health care of all

Had a wonderful time talking to author Michael Lewis about how government works and doesn’t work. Listen to this week’s #TheMWPodcast here apple.co/3nQey4y

One of the fascinating things about American politics though is how unpredictable it is. We should always hold space in our hearts for people to grow and change. And the fact that we don’t expect him to be bolder is all the more reason for us to keep saying that he should be.
