2/ The system’s response to that is always, “Oh silly unsophisticated one, you know nothing about economics!” They use the idea that economics is a verifiable science as a kind of magical spell to keep people from questioning assumptions that otherwise we’d know are so wrong.

1/ We have got to stop apologizing for wanting public policy to be guided by humanitarian interests. We should proclaim unabashedly that whatever improves the human condition ultimately improves the economy because it increases people’s creativity and productivity.

45 million voters hold college loan debt that’s crippling them. How would it have been bad politics to tell them that if you elect us we’ll cancel those debts? Especially since a good argument is made for how much it would stimulate the economy for the money to be in their hands!

Thank you for your kind words, Paul. I’m one of those who thinks Bernie would have won big in 2016. In 2020, how would it have been bad to say to 45 million voters we’re going to cancel your $1.5T college loan debt, explaining to everyone else how much it would help the economy?

Beginnings of any system are important; it’s much harder to change a trajectory once it’s in motion. The Left will be told now to “let the dust settle” before making demands. Translation: “Let us get all our guys in there & then we’ll hear you out once it doesn’t really matter.”

Amy McGrath, Sarah Gideon among others. Being “careful” got them nowhere. The Democrats have been tacking to the right for years, pretending it’s a winning strategy when it is anything but.

People are saying Biden won by having a moderate message, so progressives need to be very careful. But there is no evidence Biden won by having a moderate message. Based on Congressional races results, there’s just as good a chance he would’ve won by a bigger margin being bolder.

How do you know that they won by being moderate? There is no particular evidence for that. How do you know that they wouldn’t have won by a bigger margin with a bolder message?

I hear that Megyn, but people who feel that they and theirs - and democracy itself - been viciously attacked BY this president for the last 4 years are the ones who won the election. If we’re going to make room for everyone then we have to make room for everyone.

NPR’s Mara Liasson yesterday said “the Left will simply have to be patient and take what it can.” Corporatists don’t just suppress campaigns; they create narratives & expect the rest of us to buy into them. The Left isn’t some errant child; it’s the biggest grown-up in the room.

The way I originally wrote it was “saved your ass” but we figured it was a little too much...:)

It will be harder, although conceivably we could still get Georgia’s two seats and have a tie there. But it’s more than that. It’s what we say and how we talk and what we stand for.
