Ah! Except that in certain public places smoking cigarettes is not legal, because it harms other people and not just you.

Ahhh! And the 210,000 who’ve already died in this country? You’re like saying that every time there’s a plane crash we really shouldn’t care that much because just think of all the hundreds of thousands of people who flew that day and it was fine!

Rhetorical question. Isn’t it a primary responsibility of government to do everything possible to keep our people safe? If they’ll spend hundreds of billions of dollars to fight a foreign enemy, why would they do less to fight an enemy inside our bodies? nytimes.com/2020/10/09/healt…

If the word “green” turns off some people, that just says to me we need to say it ten more times. We need to stop running away from what we really mean and simply say what it is that we really want.

“You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will be as one.” Happy 80th birthday, John Lennon! Truth, it’s not the same without you. 😞🙏🏻

No, that’s the illusion. In a representative democracy the people must remain vigilant. In a country meant to be governed by its people, the people cannot afford to give up their power even to their own elected representatives. They work for us and not the other way around.

4/ It’s not where we are that ultimately matters so much as where we’re going. The waters we’re in right now are turbulent, but on the other side of this there’s a calm and pristine bay of societal potential. Every moment we spend imagining it is a moment we help bring it forth.

3/ Too many people were distracted, but no more: a political awakening is at hand. We can’t see all the results yet but on the level of cause a political volcano is brewing, a realignment of our hearts with our highest ideals. See beyond the darkness and straight into the light.

2/ Many blame others for perpetrating madness they wouldn’t have been able to perpetrate if more of us had been awake politically. Too many people remaining apolitical enabled the emergence of a “political class.” And how’d did they do? Look around you.

1/ For years I heard people say things like “I’m not political” & that illusion contributed to what’s happening now. In fact everything is political: the quality of the air you breathe, toxins in food, safety of cars and airplanes, whether or not you have healthcare and fair pay.

I never had much feeling about Gretchen Whitmer one way or the other, but the elegance and class she has displayed in all this is truly commendable.

For the first time in its history, the prestigious New England Journal of Medicine is urging Americans to vote President Trump out of office, saying the Trump administration has "taken a crisis and turned it into a tragedy" with its pandemic response. trib.al/TxiX4Lz

I try. A lot of us try. We just have to keep trying. America has millions of chronically traumatized children and I pray it will one day be seen as the civil rights issue it actually is.

The Republican Party wouldn’t stop him. Robert Mueller wouldn’t stop him. His cabinet wouldn’t stop him. Congress wouldn’t stop him. The DOJ and FBI wouldn’t stop him. None of our democratic institutions could stop him. On November 3rd the people are going to stop him.
