Specially with the SCOTUS being what it is, we’re not going to be able to overturn Citizens United anytime soon. We need to work towards a constitutional amendment to create public funding for federal campaigns. That work is bigger than either party or any one election.

I think a lot more people have cried a few tears recently than we have any idea. But even that will transform us. We took a lot of things for granted that we will never take for granted again.

In Australia voting is compulsory; I wouldn’t have a problem with that. But right now I’m more concerned with making sure that people who want to vote can vote, and that we know their votes are counted.

It’s never been perfect. Other generations have had to push back against institutionalized darkness of the heart, and when they have succeeded they have then made changes that allowed course-corrections to occur. It’s simply our turn now.

It doesn’t imply that at all. But it does mean people will again grow up with an understanding of the basic principles of a free govt , whether high-minded conservative or liberal, and have a basic knowledge of the Constitution with a respect for the tenets of American democracy

Long-term I know we’ll be fine. In the short term none of us can afford to fool ourselves; no matter what, we’re going to have a lot of work to do to put this country back on track.

Definitely break up the tech companies and regulate them! What Facebook is allowing to happen in this country is morally criminal, even though there is not yet a law against it.

When this nightmare is over we’ll need to guarantee 3 things to make sure it never happens again: that 1) every American child learn civics, 2) every citizen has enough economic opportunity to thrive, and 3) we take the money out of politics and return government to the people.

We should know and we should care.
In first installment of 10-part podcast, award-winning journalist @amywestervelt digs deep into Chevron's environmental crimes and fraud in Ecuador -- and its SLAPP-attacks on First Amendment. podlink.to/drilled

Because an individual cannot supply all the things they need for themselves. Healthcare, education, environmental protection etc. must be paid for at least in part by the federal government.

So strange how many people resist someone telling them that they deserve more, particularly given that the money is from taxes that they themselves paid. People have been brainwashed to expect - even to want, in some perverse way - less rather than more from their government.

No they do not mandate them to pay their workers. And that’s the problem.

Neither plan was perfect, but the Democratic one is a hell of a lot better than the Republicans’. The Democrats at least *have* a plan; the Republicans are essentially telling people to drop dead. A $1200 one time cash payment?? How are people supposed to live on that?

We did a bail out of trillions of dollars for major corporations. Did you say that about them? And the head of the CDC said that if all of us wore masks for 8 to 12 weeks, we would pretty much be done with this.

We’re risking the safety of our children so that parents can go back to work, when their parents shouldn’t even be having to go back to work because they should be receiving direct cash relief which would allow them to stay home.

That’s why every citizen should be receiving direct cash relief. Neither adults nor children should be having to risk their lives going anywhere while major corporations get trillions of dollars in bailouts.
