This is outrageous.
Somehow, following a 17-year-old killing two people, the Kenosha police chief defends the mobilization of vigilantes to his town: “Across this nation there have been armed civilians who have come out to exercise their constitutional right and to potentially protect property.”

Small acts of random truth-telling...
Trevor Noah trolls Trump big time. Takes out this full page ad in today’s New York Times, Washington Post, and Los Angeles Times.

The callousness is unbelievable. On the other hand, I think there’s a level on which they do care.
New: VP’s Chief of Staff Marc Short called social justice protests by major sports leagues & athletes “absurd and silly.” “If they wanna protest, I don’t think we care,” Short said on CNN.

Bernie and I both talked about it. Dems don’t go there because it’s about the arms sale to Saudi Arabia.

I don’t think that’s true at all.

First of all, I didn’t say that. Second of all, being educated about the past can do a lot to empower you in the present.

When he talked about those things in the context of race he was fine (relatively). It’s when he started talking about the war in Viet Nam that he was killed.

Almost everyone right now would be well served reading a basic book about American history. Knowing our historical landscape gives us two gifts: 1/ we’ve been through very, very, very tough times before, and 2/ our pattern over time has always been to self-correct. We will again.

Women’s Suffrage and Civil Rights legislation dismantling segregation. It’s not just about peaceful protesting. That’s the point of the post. It’s about peaceful non-violent activism of all kinds.

The Voting Rights Act was chipped away at but not dismantled. And you’re absolutely right about everything else you said, but the question remains how to deal it.

I know the system is corrupt. I know it firsthand. But still, there are enough places - look at Jamaal Bowman in NY for instance - where progressives have triumphed over the corporatist elite. We can do this. But we have to work hard at it.

Elect real progressives. It’s hard, it takes work, it’s exhausting, but there are those who have proven it can be done.

In my experience the most cynical people are the ones who deep down want the most to believe.
