1/ There are people who claim that giving people $1000 a month will “disincentivize” them from working, yet think that giving huge corporations tens of millions of dollars in subsidies is what will make them better able to do their job.

Here here.
My father believed that the Universal Basic Income (Guaranteed Annual Income) is a viable, humane, strategic solution to poverty. It does not promote laziness, but invokes the dignity of labor and holistic wellness. We must eradicate poverty. There’s no excuse for it in this age.

“The dogmas of the quiet past are inadequate to the stormy present. The occasion is piled high with difficulty & we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, we must think anew & act anew. We must disenthrall ourselves, and then we shall save our country.” - Abe Lincoln

Biden should appoint a Presidential Commission on Recreating Law Enforcement. It should consist not just of “police experts” but of regular citizens, sociologists & social workers. And it should be actionable. We have to start thinking this way; we can’t just “reform” what is.

If we can land a man on the moon, we should be able to re-create policing in the United States so as not to be so dangerous to our citizens. It’s one of many areas where it will not be technical expertise but rather imagination, ethics and vision that guide us to a better future.

I do think most of them are doing the best they can in a difficult situation, but “radical leftists” are not “endangering our cities.”

There’s something inherently & fundamentally flawed about our system of policing in the United States. Police are not being trained to “keep the peace,” but to act as though they’re practically an occupying army. The system should be demolished and replaced.

Our entire system should be reimagined and transformed. In Germany, police recruits are required to spend 2 1/2-4 yrs in basic training to become an officer. Basic training in the U.S. can take as little as 21 weeks (or 33.5 weeks, with field training). google.com/amp/s/amp.theatla…

The more of them that get it though, the quicker the movement reaches critical mass.

I don’t see it the same way. For too long America has been able to look away from such things. There are many times in history where a change has occurred only when enough people actually saw something and felt something. No one can see that video and not see it and feel it.

What person of conscience would NOT be protesting in Kenosha tonight? And given that it is their Constitutional right to do so, on what grounds are they being teargassed? This is a moment of legitimate moral outrage. This is our America and in America this must not stand.
Teargas is used to disperse protesters in front of Kenosha’s police Department. @journalsentinel

So when millions of us have seen with our own eyes the execution of unarmed black men, can someone explain how any policeman still feels permitted to do dastardly deeds like what was done to Jacob Blake tonight? (And don’t dare anyone say that we don’t have all the facts yet)

This is the most painful thing I have ever seen. Dear God, please put Your hand on this man and heal him. Amen
