I deleted a tweet that many seem to think indicated that I support American interference in Latin American elections. For those like myself who have a weird habit of being up at 4 AM thinking about things like American foreign policy in Venezuela, know that I didn’t and I don’t.

I didn’t say it was.

Of course it doesn’t. Nor did I say it did. It’s not the job of the US to interfere there, or anywhere for that matter. Any projection onto me that I’m saying it does is completely false. I simply made a comment about Trump’s attraction to strongmen. Wish I hadn’t but here we are

The fact that someone is “elected” does not mean they’re not a dictator. Hitler was democratically elected.

I assume, when you say it could possibly end a lot of suffering, that you think his meeting with Maduro might get sanctions lifted. But I don’t think it’s glib at all to point out that he’s never met a strongman he didn’t like.

Yes. Thank you. I opened a can of worms that allowed for a lot of projection onto what I was saying. Clumsy of me. I was simply talking about Trump’s motives. I didn’t roll out of bed this morning having turned into a neoliberal during the night...

I know quite a bit about it, Victoria. I can hold my own with this conversation but thank you.

I totally see your point. But one thing being bad doesn’t make the other thing good. My point was about Trump’s attraction to strongman dictators; to me that’s very, very concerning. I opened a can of worms. I can see that.

I think Broihier is a better candidate, but clearly it’s up to the people of Kentucky to decide.

Jamaal is going to win though. It’s so obvious what’s happening and his race has sparked people’s imaginations. youtube.com/VnGn4sc_QVQ

But by all means credit Kucinich. So do I…

Wow, Jesse. Very unfair. I’ve said over and over again that our sanctions there were terrible. I’m not naïve about American foreign-policy in Latin America. But we should not romanticize Maduro. He’s not Allende. Trump isn’t standing up for democracy here.

Romanoff’s race in Colorado is extremely important. Corporatist Democrats work as hard to defeat progressive Dems as to defeat Republicans. From Colorado to Kentucky to Maine, their support of centrist candidates sucks the soul out of the Democratic party. sirota.substack.com/p/beltwa…

I don’t necessarily disagree with that. But recognizing that someone was elected and inviting them to the White House is two different things. Trump would not be supporting Maduro out of a love of democracy.
