Accountability is one thing; "cruel and unusual punishment" is another.

The DA disagrees with you; the officer has been charged with murder. If someone takes your taser and runs away from you, no you don't get to shoot him in the back! He wasn't running away from a violent crime, remember; he was running away from where he fell asleep at Wendy's.

Civil rights movement. Abolition. Women's suffrage. (American examples work best, by the way)

You think the civil rights movement wasn’t a collective act of love? Because it was.

No one who actually knows me thinks I have weird crystal healer vibes, by the way. Those who created the caricature didn’t do it because they actually thought I silly; they did it because they knew I wasn’t.

Memo: He was shot in the back. A policeman is not judge and jury.

The very fact that he was charged is meaningful and historically different.

Equally important. One without the other is not enough to get the job done.

Policeman being charged with murder in the case of Rayshard Brooks represents an absolute sea change. Anyone anywhere in the world who has attended a #BLM protest, posted on your platforms, or in any other way lifted your voice - be assured today that what you’re doing is working

Americans are not just protesting racial injustice at this point. We’re protesting an entire web of injustice - economic, criminal and environmental as well as racial - that’s the underlying systemic cause. What we’re experiencing now is “a new birth of freedom” - and it’s time.

This is why economics is a moral issue. Policies that transfer hundreds of billions of dollars into the hands of the few at the expense of vast suffering among so many, is an ethical transgression that should offend the conscience of a nation.
This is the economy under Trump: Billionaires are getting richer during the coronavirus pandemic while millions of hard-working Americans lose their jobs.

This is why perseverance matters. It works.
Target’s announcement today shows us that a $15 minimum wage is an idea whose time has come. Years of grassroots organizing has created an unstoppable movement. Now the Senate must pass our Raise the Wage Act and guarantee a dignified, living wage for every worker in America.

Certain things, like whether or not there was slavery and when, aren’t a matter of “perspective.” American children should be brought up with a clear-eyed view of the wrongs that have been committed by the US as well as all the good we’ve stood for. Both are real & both matter.

The most important thing they don’t want us to know, which more specifically they just don’t care whether or not we know, are the deeper principles on which this country purports to stand. When we know those principles, we tend to fight for them when they’re threatened.

Pretty sure Democrats are “ripping apart our constitution?” Read it and you won’t think that.

No one is shutting down conservatives. High minded, principled conservatives are an important part of our political tradition. But hatefilled right wing nutcases r no better than hatefilled leftwing nutcases. And commonsense gun safety laws don’t take away your 2nd Amdnt rights
