75 yrs ago today the Allies stormed beaches of Normandy in the D-Day Invasion. In the largest military operation in history, they beat back the Nazis and turned the tide of the war once and for all. This is an excellent day to read up on what it all meant. history.com/topics/world-war…

They bravely fought the Nazis in Europe, and we must be willing to fight them just as bravely here.

Mayors are elected by the people, and the police are not. This is an important phenomenon going on now: Mayors confronting police when they go rogue. It takes personal courage for them to do that and we should applaud them when they do. topbuzz.com/article/i6835246…

3/ For so much less money than we now spend on police, we could create conditions that prevent societal pathology in the first place. This is why, domestically and internationally, America needs a Department of Peace. Ideas once deemed silly are now recognized as urgently needed.

2/ Police training today, in addition to being ridiculously short compared to other countries, involves no real peace-keeping skills. Our police need to schooled in the ways of soul force & in a much different kind of brute force. They need to be actual "keepers of the peace."

1/ A fraction of work done by police require guns & the use of brute force. Vast majority of it would better be done by social workers, non-violent communicators and citizen patrols. We should stop mocking such ideas as ridiculous and instead start asking how to make them happen.

I think psychological/emotional pain is like physical pain. It’s there for a reason. It means something has to be addressed. This is a painful period for America but it’s forcing us to look at things that need to be looked at, need to be dealt with, and need to be healed.

My spiritual analysis is that having put money and material power before love, our country is now reaping profound effects that we have sown. We need atonement for our national character defects and we need to make a serious commitment to change.
