No one is defending those crimes. But he was not there to pay respect to the church. He was there to exploit it for a photo op. That is why the bishop was so angry.

Separation of church & state doesn't mean religious people aren't supposed to talk! They have as much to say as anyone else, often more important than most. Separation of church & state protects govt from church interference on policy & protects church from interference by govt.

I hope every Episcopalian feels proud of Bishop Mariann Budde tonight. Her words on Lawrence O'Donnell are everything religious leadership should be - particularly right now. Beautiful words, wonderful woman. A true moral voice.

2/ At what point does every ex-President and every Republican as well as Democratic leader do a press conference together to denounce this man? Trump is serious - he is not joking - when he makes threats, and he is threatening us all.

1/ Tear gas & rubber bullets (which do harm, by the way) sent into a peaceful crowd so Trump & his men can parade over to a church without any inconvenience, isn't the work of someone who wants to be an authoritarian dictator. It's the work of someone who has already become one.

A role of spiritual leadership is to articulate the conscience of society. So glad Right Reverend Budde called out the president for his misuse of her church today. I protested at the WH - left before he came - and all was peaceful. Use of tear gas absurd google.com/amp/s/www.washing…

Please don’t minimize the importance of these elections. No matter what happens now, the make up of the next Congress will mean everything.

At this point, I don’t think it’s about the number so much. That can be worked out. It’s about getting the idea of reparations to the point where it’s a viable political possibility.

The most important thing we can do right now is to support down ballot progressive Congressional candidates. I will be interviewing one each night for seven nights starting tomorrow. Please come and please spread the word. Progressivecandidatesummit.c…

Good for him for saying it. Respect.
BET founder Bob Johnson says “Now is the time to go big," calls on $14 trillion in reparations for Black people for centuries of slavery to address income inequality in America

So when various mayors say they truly understand and respect peaceful protesters - yet then their own police get violent toward those protesters - does this mean the mayors do not have control of their police forces? Actions speak louder than words.
