No, one of the biggest mistakes in American politics is that Reagan ever said that. I don’t think even he foresaw, or would agree with, the damage that that sentence has created.

Americans have been trained over the last few decades to expect so little from govt, propagandized to believe govt actually helping them is a bad thing. It’s a tragic surrender to corporate control & a betrayal of the ideal of govt “of the people, by the people & for the people.”

A virus isn’t the only thing that can harm a person’s life; so can poverty, hunger and unsustainable despair. If we had a bailout that enabled people to survive for the duration of this crisis, they wouldn’t have to be choosing now between their health or their livelihood.

If the government provided a bailout that actually paid workers rather than their overlords, they wouldn’t have to be choosing between their health and their livelihoods.

That massive transfer of wealth has been going on for 40 years. But today it’s more than a robbery. It’s active participation in policies that destroy people’s lives.

Trump has repeatedly told people that once Covid is over the economy will go back to booming, but many of the people he’s saying that to will no longer have businesses left to boom. Republican leaders who are supporting his nonsense have crossed over from cowards to accomplices.

40% of America’s small businesses could go bankrupt in the next 6 months, while the bailout has gone mainly to big companies. This is a tsunami of pain on the part of the people, and criminal neglect on the part of a government that has failed them. nytimes.com/article/small-bu…

“You can only have so much sanity if the madness is coming from the top down” is a brilliant way to say it. Thank you.

Don’t get caught up in numbers. Critical mass is supposedly not even all that much. The deeper any of us go, the deeper other people will be moved to go.

I’m talking about all of us.

All of us! Until the last few years, people didn’t go around delineating generations the way we do now. It fragments us in ways that are not always helpful. At a certain point, we’re all old enough to be considered grown-ups. Period.

Don’t look for hope and inspiration in the last few years! This is an aberrational moment in American history. But we’ve gone through very dark times before and we will get through this one too.
