8/ I have a well-established record of healthy skepticism about Big Pharma, but I don’t believe the cynicism expressed by the extreme WHO critics is justified.

7/ These whispers can pose as much a danger to our democracy as is the propaganda and conspiratorial falsehoods screamed by the far right.

6/ The conspiracy theories are baseless in my opinion, and it is typical of the president that he engages in them. Not everything ‘established’ is some nefarious plot by a wicked “establishment.”

5/ They stand in a multi-partisan, international role wherein they direct and advise with no real means of power. The WHO has undoubtedly, like any organization, made mistakes in its history - but not in the ways in which they are smeared to have done.

4/ If they were “in the pocket of Big Pharma,” surely they would have AT LEAST more money or even ONE example of having been led in an unethical direction. (Their budget is $2.4 billion a year, remember that)

3/ The WHO is the only organisation in the world with the expertise to reliably direct pandemics of this kind, and has a proven track record of doing so since its inception in 1948 (smallpox, for one).

Gandhi said the leader of the Indian Independence movement was the “small still voice within.” In days before technological communication, even during darkest days of WW2, people found ways to communicate, form underground movements, collaborate & forge ways forward. So will we.

No it’s not. This is about unethical people and their misuse of an inherently neutral economic system. There is such a thing as righteous profit, but in a situation of national emergency profit shouldn’t even be a factor at all. This isn’t even profit, it’s complete price gouging

Profiteering much?
FEMA gave a $55,000,000 no-bid contract to a bankrupt company with no employees for N95 masks – which they don't make or have – at 7x the cost others charge. washingtonpost.com/national/…

You can’t compare Biden to Trump on climate change. Voting isn’t just about our standards, it’s about serving our country by trying to put the best people in charge. We can give it all kinds of justification, but the fact remains that if we don’t vote then that’s a vote for Trump

Humanity is not incapable at all; we’ve simply allowed our government to be taken over by those who are unwilling. As far as the primary is concerned, it’s a huge problem I admit - but even that can be changed.

Don’t forget: we have elections in November. Be active in your own state, too. There’s a lot to change - I know about that quite well - but as I’ve heard Bernie say, “despair is not an option.” Other generations have made extraordinary changes and we will too.

It’s not a matter of being a target. It’s a matter of being a responsible nation. The fact that other people are reckless doesn’t mean that we should be. We should hold ourselves to a higher standard.

“Government is not the answer. It is the problem” Is a 40 yr old slogan that has caused more damage to this country than anything since the Depression. It has convinced people that govt shouldn’t help them, while those who perpetuate the slogan certainly use it to help themselves
