They’re on a recess. For some reason I feel the need to repeat that. They’re...on...a...recess....!
Congress' job has only grown more critical with the crisis. But lawmakers are on an extended recess — and they still can't vote remotely. trib.al/PTqj2Mc

Outrageous and heartbreaking.
How is anyone tweeting about anything other than the fact that young doctors and nurses are dying in America because of a failure to provide adequate PPE? How is not every politician, governor, hospital administrator, celebrity, athlete, and news person NOT screaming this?

Every pandemic in history has been followed by a cultural and social blossoming. This one can too, but only if we use this time to reflect on what that blossoming might look like. In the midst of the darkness that’s our slice of light.

The distinguishing characteristic of a world that supports the full blossoming of every person’s potential, versus the world we have now, is that it’s one in which we give ourselves permission to put our common humanity before everything else.

Actively imagine what you want the world to be on the other side of this (I assure you, those who don’t wish you well are already doing so).As soon as this is over we need to hit the ground running creating systems and procedures for creating a more just, humane and loving world.

Every day after the President’s coronavirus briefing, the Democrats should hold their own - agreeing and supporting where appropriate, offering other and better ideas where helpful. Otherwise people have no way of answering the question, “Well, what would you do differently?”

If this kind of thing continues, this country will see upheaval unlike anything we’ve seen in 100 years. I suggest the Democratic leadership show a whole lot more spine, and quickly

No. Alacrity is the issue. Investment in public need is the issue. Not starving needed agencies is the issue.

A step in the right direction in the effort to end undue corporate influence on our government. Nothing, nothing, nothing more important after what we’re going through now. newsweek.com/us-supreme-cour…

Some of the governors are stepping up beautifully. Bravo.
New York needs more ventilators, and we are answering their call for help. We'll be sending 140 ventilators to help NY because Oregon is in a better position right now. We must do all that we can to help those on the front lines of this response.

US govt like a dinosaur to a house fire: slow, sluggish, not quite getting it (leadership means staying ahead of the game, not coming up behind it.) Food banks already overwhelmed. Tsunami of mass hunger in the distance. Military should be organizing now for free food delivery.

The Defense Production Act should be used for emergency manufacture of medicine as well as equipment. During this crisis, all private manufacturing should be placed at the disposal of the public need. No time for negotiation. npr.org/2020/04/04/826961777…
