Steyer has dropped out, now Pete is dropping out. The moderates are consolidating. This is going to be a rocky week. Whichever way your passion lies, this is the moment to drill down. The next two days are everything.

Bernie is the one who mentions FDR; I pointed out why. I don’t think he or I lack historical perspective. It’s like we’re going around these days pretending hunger and poverty do not exist here and they do!

So if I’m a homeless person today, my pain doesn’t matter as much because I’m in a smaller group than existed during the Great Depression? That makes no sense. Perhaps read my original tweet again. I did not compare the size of the groups. I compared the pain of the people.

It IS a spiritual issue to refuse to look away from the suffering of others. That’s why I ran, and what I said throughout the campaign.

My father grew up during the Depression in dire poverty. Almost 40 million Americans live in poverty today and 500,000 Americans are homeless. 100,000 of the homeless are children. You bet their despair matters as much as his did. He’s the one who taught me that.

There’s a reason why Bernie keeps mentioning FDR. He realizes that for millions of people today the situation is as dire as what many people were experiencing then. We need a massive infusion of economic opportunity into the life of the average American - and we need it fast.

Tens of millions of people don’t know what they’d do if they got sick, what they’d do if one of their kids got sick, how they’ll send their kids to college or how they’ll pay off their college loans. We owe them a hell of a lot more than an incremental approach to fixing all that

They pass massive tax cuts for the richest in one day. They pass massive defense spending bills that profit the military-industrial-complex in one day. But when it comes to the health and education of our citizens it’s like “Oh no no, we can’t possibly spend that much that fast!”

Thank you, I have one. I can read too! I’m even smart enough to know when my words are being purposely misrepresented. Should I send you something to read about that?

If you attend a failing school, lack health care and can’t afford higher education, then financial opportunity is in effect is being denied you, while those who already have those opportunities are consistently having their taxes lowered. That’s how.

We could begin by repealing the 2017 tax cut, which gives $.83 of every dollar to the very richest Americans. Yes it could be repealed immediately, although the middle class tax cuts should be put back in. That tax cut went into effect in one day and it can be repealed in one day

A massive transfer of wealth has occurred over the last 40 years (through tax cuts for the richest and corporate subsidies, mainly), creating the largest income inequality in almost 100 yrs. 1% controls more money than the bottom 90%. So the answer to your question is yes!

...and UBI, and free tuition, and fair fax rates. Economic justice isn’t some far left socialist conspiracy. It’s simply a way to embody the idea that “God gave all men the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

40% of Americans couldn’t cover a $1,000 unexpected expenditure. That’s not just an economic disadvantage; it’s a source of chronic tension & anxiety. If our political establishment wants to help with the mental health crisis it might start by not leaving so many in such despair.
