Given how many of us watched The Sopranos, I'm sort of surprised that anyone's surprised.

It seems like that's true, but shouldn't it be the opposite?

When something is illegal but done anyway, when all statutes and investigative agencies are clear about that (and the Trump administration would have known it was illegal), what happens now? From DHS to USPS, that’s what’s happening. How will the law be enforced and by whom?
The @USGAO has ruled that Cuccinelli and Wolf are serving in their positions at DHS illegally. These men, who led the deployment of secret police to Portland and helped Trump separate families at the border, never had any legal basis to be in these roles to begin with.

There was a great HBO special about it a few years ago called "Ironjawed Angels" with Hilary Swank and Angelica Huston that was wonderful.

What's even more heartbreaking is that nothing is being done about it.
The official response to this today was a letter and hashtag. It’s so disappointing. Just heartbreaking. washingtonpost.com/local/md-…

Clearly he is.
I demand that Congress immediately subpoena Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. We need immediate answers as to why he's slowing down mail and dismantling mail sorting systems three months before a vote-by-mail election during a pandemic. Is he helping Trump steal the election?

4/ Not only w/ infectious diseases but also w/ nuclear power & the environment, death has been staring us in the face for a long time. We need to proactively wage peace, we need WW2-level mass mobilization to deal w/ climate change, and we need to front end resources to our kids.

3/That’s why we need to get $ out of politics; only then will we be able to change our guidance system from whatever serves unfettered capitalism to whatever serves people and planet. Money should not be the deciding factor in tending to our planet, our democracy or our people.

2/Ours has not worked that way for a long time, because our guiding principle has been short term corporate profits rather them long-term societal health and well-being. Problems arise and we are merely reactive, which in many cases is the opposite of being “response-able.”

1/ Countries much wiser than ours play the long game, not only planning for the future 20 & 30 years from now but also looking at the horizon to see dangers lurking ahead and working to prevent them.

It kicks in at the difference between corporate Democrats like CS, and progressives. Sad losses this season to Hickenlooper, McGrath & Gideon - all of whom backed by DSCC corporate money. But a few progressives have won primaries (such as Cori Bush, Jamaal Bowman) & more remain

Enough that journalists won’t start regularly going to jail, people won’t start receiving visits from the police saying their twitter feed “isn’t appreciated,” the planet won’t continue to be violently desecrated, and his picks for SCOTUS won’t be conservative hacks.

There are some differences though. The first door to open is in our minds. When that happens, we’re smarter, savvier, and more non-violent. What happens then is that all these little keys are put in millions of people’s’ pockets in millions of different ways.

Yes and so many more like him. Remember, there are great people in Congress who feel the way we do. But everybody member gets only one vote. Especially in the Senate, which is headed by Republicans, some really great progressives are there but their hands are tied

That’s why it’s so important to vote in progressive rather than corporate Democrats

The president has enormous power - that’s obvious to everyone now. Allowing him 4 more years & we might not ever recover. As it is we’re hanging by a thread. With different people in Congress & WH, we’ll have a chance. The country cannot change without a change in actual policies

Trump’s appointments. Bannon said they were there to “dismantle the administrative state.” And he meant it. They have. They appt people to head agencies who go there to destroy them: EPA, DOJ, DOE etc. People head govt whose goal is to turn all power over to the private sector

I agree! And just think, that was even before the pandemic
