Exactly.
Just remember, the police at every level know Antifa isn’t the real threat, according to their own documents. theintercept.com/2020/07/15/…

Totally. Completely. Absolutely.
In December John Lewis presided over House vote to restore Voting Rights Act. Bill has been sitting on McConnell's desk for 225 days. Best way to honor Lewis is for Congress to revive law he devoted his life to & call it John Lewis Voting Rights Act

Those who say it isn’t happening have a strategy in mind: to make you doubt your own eyes. Don’t let it happen.

Except the Cold Civil War that’s happening in this country right now. Let that sink in.

There are a lot of people for whom that wasn’t true. 11 states don’t require even half a year of civics or American history.

For those who wonder what one book they could read to make a difference in how they navigate this moment, this would be my recommendation: Testament of Hope, the Collected Writings of MLK Jr. Open it anywhere, and an entire world will open up to you.books.google.com/books/about…

3/ That paves the way for more than nonsense about a “law and order” president. It paves the way (already has) for the beginnings of a fascist crackdown unlike anything we’ve ever seen on the streets of this country. Non-violence as a political strategy isn’t stupid; it’s smart

2/ Our being violent totally plays into their hands. One broken window and they build it into a narrative about how looters & anarchists are taking over the streets & they need to send in federal troops to quell the violence. Unfortunately, they get a lot of people to buy into it

1/ MLK Jr wouldn’t agree that it takes privilege to advocate for non-violence. It wasn’t that violent segregationists cared, it was that the conscience of the rest of the nation cared. It’s BECAUSE the forces arrayed against us are violent that we must refuse to be.

That is not at all what I think, and nothing in my 37 year career would indicate that I do. Your projecting on to me that I’m a naive or lightweight thinker doesn’t make me one.

This is what he said he was going to do - “take over some cities” - and he’s doing it. This is his election campaign, his demonstration that he is the strong law and order president. Non-violence is so critically important now, because only non-violence takes away his argument.
I spoke with Oregon Gov. Kate Brown. She said she spoke with Chad Wolf, the Homeland Security secretary, and asked that he remove federal agents from the streets of Portland. She said he refused. nytimes.com/2020/07/17/us/po…

5/ Compassion is our only way out of this. Feel compassion for those who fear you, because love is to fear what light is to darkness. In the presence of one the other dissolves. Only love will win the war because it will take us above the battlefield.
