I said $100 billion, not $1 billion. Also, reparations are not paid to individuals. They would be funds disbursed to programs that benefit economic and educational renewal, as determined by a Reparations Council of black leaders chosen from across culture, politics and academia.

Universal healthcare should be available in the US as it is in every other advanced democracy. Millions of Americans live with chronic anxiety over what would happen if they got sick or one of the children got sick, capping their creativity, productivity & emotional availability.

My idea is a Reparations Council of 20 black leaders selected from culture, politics and academia. $10 billion could be disbursed every year for 10 years to projects they determine, supporting economic and educational renewal in the black community.

There were roughly 4 million slaves at end of the Civil War. 40 acres & a mule were promised to each, then either not given or else given & then taken back. Full economic integration into free society was never accomplished; morally their descendants are still owed restitution.

The US should pay reparations for slavery in the form of $100B given to educational and economic renewal in the black community, just as Germany paid $89B in reparations to Jews after WW2 & the US paid $20,000 in reparations to each surviving victim of Japanese internment camps.

Correct.
The only humanitarian crisis at the border is that the Trump administration continues to ignore the hundreds of men, women and children all seeking their human right to seek asylum.

Here is a wonderful article by Ana Levy-Lyons about climate change, evolution, and who we deeply are. yesmagazine.org/planet/the-s…

The problem is bigger than climate change deniers; the problem is the people who are funding them. This is an effort by fossil fuel industry forces, aided by politicians they legally bribe, to block efforts to deal with climate change because those efforts cut into their profits.

Many millions of people, including in the USA, want to face climate change head on. The problem is fossil fuel companies using $ and influence to block all efforts to deal with it. The problem isn’t that the people are stupid; the problem is that the administration is corrupt.

Carbon emissions rose sharply in 2018, increasing the dangers of what is already an existential threat to our survival. While climate change becomes ever more dangerous, our EPA continues its rape of our planet to increase fossil fuel industry profits. google.com/amp/s/www.washing…
