They have no intention of doing so, and our buying the idea that they just want to help Americans first is delaying the awakening that would force them to.

Are you under the impression that the forces in this country that are denying rights and resources internationally are instead applying those resources to people here? They are not.

Seeking asylum in America is a statutory right. Would you end that?

Replying to @DonSRiddell
Exactly what we have been doing, with legitimate issues like chain migration, lottery system & other reasonable topics addressed in bipartisan manner. This is a made-up crisis. We’re not being attacked or invaded by hordes of criminals. Seeking asylum is a statutory right.

The facts are in the side of compassion...as usual. Illegal immigration has been heading down, not up.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t have border security. But what is happening now is not legitimate border security; it is a stunt, the demonization of immigrants to produce fear in order to create a control mentality among a particular base. Illegal immigration was going down, not up.

Closing our borders is just a symptom; closing our hearts is the disease.

The denial of climate change, particularly the avoidance of our moral responsibility to deal with it, is deadly and self-destructive. For the sake of our children and our children's children, let's educate ourselves. challenge ourselves, and take action. latimes.com/nation/la-na-cli…

She is absolutely right. Americans have been trained to expect so little from our government, but perhaps that is about to change.
Insurance groups are recommending GoFundMe as official policy - where customers can die if they can’t raise the goal in time - but sure, single payer healthcare is unreasonable. h/t @DanRiffle

Then that's why I said it...though I didn't know it. So fabulous how that works.

You can't put new wine in old bottles, and you can't put a 21st Century sustainable reality in the bottle of a 20th Century political mindset.

The tragedy of human existence is not that humanity is all bad, but that we're capable of being so gloriously good yet so often fail.

It's our generation's turn to decide which it will be in our time.

That's the one place we can't let each other go. It's only too late if we decide that it is. And we can choose otherwise.

Some people have a problem admitting things America has done wrong but other people have a problem admitting anything we've done right. A nation is made up of people, and like most people we've displayed both good and bad. Our healers are those who recognize - and tend - to both.

I admire how elegantly yet adamantly you refuse to shrink back when people attack you. It's a difficult balance and you handle it so well. It's good for other women to see. Thank you.
