Our war economy will be turned into a peace economy, our morally neutral economy will be turned into a green economy, and our unjust economy will be turned into a just economy WHEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SAY SO. #makenoiseforlove

Jobs building military equipment that’s then sold for questionable purposes represent the same manufacturing talent that could go toward building high-speed rails instead of bombers, infrastructure projects instead of killing machines & for sustaining instead of destroying earth

People just saying, when USA totally compromises our values, “Hey that’s how it’s always been! ” - as though cynicism shows some superior political understanding - is almost more problematical than the compromises. That it’s been that way for a while is not a reason to acquiesce!

If Saudi Arabia killed Khashoggi & we’re willing to say “That’s OK, we’ll keep the $110B arms deal anyway cuz a lot of jobs are involved,” then that means we’ve abdicated even the pretense that moral values matter more than economic profit. That’s blood money & we should say so.

I don’t think so. My experience is that I can process my wound and at the same time know that I don’t have to act from it.

Historically we’ve pushed back at capitalist overreach: New Deal, labor laws, child labor laws, worker rights, safety regulations etc. But since 1980 huge propaganda for trickle down economics has convinced people it’s in their interest to give corporations anything they want.

It actually did kill some people though. It really was an epidemic, where some people literally could not stop dancing and died of heart attacks and things.

I wrote my first book about politics in 1997. This isn’t something I’m just getting into:)

Good. Because we need that now. We have to have faith in the inherent goodness of the ideal and the possibility that we can atone where we have gotten it wrong, make appropriate amends, and move forward a better nation. Otherwise we go down - which is not an acceptable option.

Our values aren’t about economics at all; they’re about democracy and our deep humanity. Economics should align with our values and not the other way around. Capitalism now untethered to an ethical center; in need of appropriate accountability & transformation - not repudiation.

Those numbers obscure the reality of millions of Americans. 40% have a hard time making ends meet for food, health, rent and transportation costs - in the richest nation in the world.

I kid you not. In 1518 there was a dancing epidemic! Seriously. Too weird not to mention. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danc…

You don’t get to “take California out of the picture.”

We’re not the first generation of Americans to have to fend off anti-democratic forces. Let’s just not be the first one to wimp out on doing the job! #Voteasthoughyourcountrydependedonit
