Even if it were activism dressed up like journalism – and sometimes, on both left and right, that is true – the Free Press is still a cornerstone of American democracy. You don’t get to call the press the “enemy of the people” just because you think it’s unfair to you.

When you have a roomful of thousands of people being riled up and told that the press is the enemy of the people, that begins to endanger the well-being of journalists who are in the room. There is nothing right, and everything wrong about this.

“Fake news” means invented stories coming from trolls, usually not even in the US. Mainstream American news sources like CNN are not “fake news.”. And yes, mainstream responsible news sources are exactly what he is attacking.

No, Sen. Bunt & every other Republican covering for the President, the President’s attacks on the press – saying “they are the Enemy of the People”, “disgusting,” “sick” etc. - are not just “inappropriate.” They’re dangerous. An attack on the free press is an attack on all of us.
