Corporate authoritarianism is an opportunistic infection that was able to attach itself to our body politic because we had a weakened immune system. Every citizen decides now: host to the disease, or immune cell that rids the system of it? Once you decide, you'll know what to do.

To me, putting the ideal on a pedestal is what makes me so clear when the material reality doesn't match it. It's what motivates and inspires me to get it right, to close the gap between the two, to make it happen. It keeps the goal in sight. Same thing, different words I think.

When it comes to climate change, there's not enough time left for incremental changes; we need to fundamentally challenge the forces that cause it & powerfully move in the direction of dealing with it. Head up, spine straight: Support a Green New Deal. sunrisemovement.org

In order to thrive, we have to have principles and values on which we stand. That is true not just for a person but also for a nation. Forget your values and chaos enters. Remember them and wounds are healed.

"Anything is possible" should not be defined only in terms of material acquisitions, and the extent to which it has is exactly the forgetfulness to which I'm referring.

It's an ideal; it's never been fully actualized but it's the job of every generation to further it. There has been evil yes, but others have met the challenges to eradicate it and now it's our turn. From Abolition to Suffrage to Civil Rights, what others have done now we must do.

"The Presidency is not merely an administrative office. That's the least of it. It is more than an engineering job, efficient or inefficient. It is pre-eminently a place of moral leadership." -- Franklin D. Roosevelt

We’ve done it before. Deep inside, hidden in our cultural DNA, we have the potential to rise up as we have risen up in times past. This play isn’t over; it’s just the beginning of the third act.

It will not be just the level of our rational intelligence that enables us to navigate these times effectively. It will be the level of our courage, our audacity, and our willingness to think outside the box.

I respect that. But “qualified politicians” took us into Vietnam & Iraq, “qualified politicians” created extreme wealth inequality, “qualified politicians” leave millions of US children in schools that don’t even have functioning toilets. I have a different set of qualifications.

The 21st-century puts these words of MLKJr. in urgent perspective: “We will learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools.” We need to do more than “elevate the narrative;” we need to be willing to fundamentally change the world. Www.marianneforamerica.com

An economic system that places corporate profits before ethical & moral considerations is the underlying cause of poverty, environmental degradation & most every other form of societal dysfunction. Our govt. serves as a handmaiden to that system, & that is what we need to change.
