I don’t think we’re afraid to get too loud. I hear a lot of noise. I think millions of people are speaking up and our only job is to join the chorus. (Mixed metaphors there, but you get my point)

The practical solution is for President Trump to stop the policy. That’s all it would take. He wants the Democrats to agree to pay for the wall before he will do that.

My mother's father came to America alone when he was 13 yrs old, sold bananas on lower East side of NYC 'til he made enough money to go back to Russia & get his next younger brother, then repeated that 7 times til every sibling & their mother was brought over. THAT is who we are

Biggest congressional hero so far on the issue of the children at the border is Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal from Seattle. Important to honor those who lead the struggle.

Melania, they’re just using you. “Both sides should sit down together” is code for “Give us the wall, or we’ll keep doing this to the children.”

Kudos to the Catholic Church for showing up the way they are for immigrants in South Texas. Important, genuinely religious counterforce to those now spewing bigotry in the name of God.

He needs the wall to satisfy his base; they instituted this policy with the children so the Democrats would cave on the wall and pass a bill that gives it to him. The main architect of the policy is Stephen Miller. The consequence is untold trauma. The mendacity is stunning.

Anytime we have a problem, it's a note from the universe to go deeper, be better, be wiser. America isn't getting off easy this time. We will rise to the level of seriously conscious citizenship, or our democracy could go down.

The person who caused you to mess up the most was on a very deep level your most sacred ally. Until that darkness came up and out of you, all the light that lay behind it was trapped. Now you know what you could not have known before, and now you are who you could not have been.

No, that’s not accurate. This is happening to people who are trying to seek legal asylum. This is not “my” narrative.

Yes, yes, a million times yes: “For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction.” — Cynthia Occelli

Why should economics order society? That doesn’t of itself create a happy species. But when we make our goal to create a happy species, material abundance like every other kind will flow like water from a stream. Humanitarian values, not economic ones, should be our bottom line.

If what we want is a peaceful, healthy world, there are two material factors more than any others that would help bring that about: expanding economic opportunities for women and educational opportunities for children.

No, you condemn my not agreeing with you on every point you make. There is a difference between obstinence and lack of compliance:)
About that, I agree. I have written about and spoken about that extensively. I just also feel that as important as it is to identify the problems, it’s important that we identify WITH the problem-solvers. And there have been many.

I can’t speak for “white women at large”. I can only speak for myself and for what I as a white woman have tried to stand for and use my voice for, including in all the areas you mentioned. I do not feel I have been complicit.

Your being a victim - and in all the ways you mention, I agree that you were and are - doesn’t mean that no one else has been. That applies to groups of people as well as to individuals. And no one has a monopoly on suffering.
