The š²š² democracy has been largely imperfect. It would be foolish to oversee the tragic plight of #Rohingya Muslims-allegedly the biggest instance of #ethniccleansing since WWII. ASSK's record on #FreedomOfThePress is also concerning in š”of at least 29 arrests of journos. [š§µ2/4]

Despite these imperfections, we should strive to buttress democracy in Myanmar, rather than support those who seek to, yet again, disassemble it entirely. The November 2020 #elections have been an important step toward building a democratic society in the country. [š§µ3/4]

I condemn the actions of the #Tatmadaw against the National League for Democracy and specifically Aung San Suu Kyi. Domestic stability within the #IndoPacific countries is important for the security of the entire region, and we ought to speak up against the events in š²š²!
