The U.S. election is a very long and complicated process. Unless we are American citizens, the opinion of those of us in Taiwan has no effect on the actual election itself.

However as citizens of Taiwan, it is important to understand the goals pursued in the US election process, problems encountered by the American people, and solutions proposed by their leaders.

Understanding those three things is important for those of us in Taiwan because the US is one of our most important business and security partners. We also have long-term cultural and educational exchanges with the U.S. Their policies will certainly have an impact on Taiwan

As a democracy, 🇹🇼 may also encounter similar challenges that the U.S has encountered but in different forms and at different points in time. It’s crucial we know the next leader’s priorities so we can analyze which ones are in line with Taiwan’s strengths, and which ones are not

For those that are not we need to look at whether we need to adjust accordingly in order to achieve the best interests of Taiwan as a whole. In this election campaign, observers in Taiwan were also divided into two factions, each making observations and predictions.

Many people think that making correct predictions shows they are wise, but whether it is accurate or not has nothing to do with one’s wisdom, but more to do with actual events.

Laughing at each other about these predictions is meaningless and just an expression of negative emotions.

At this moment, many U.S. opinion leaders are reviewing whether they have ignored the voice of the other half of the country and whether they can reconcile and advance common interests between the two parties.
