In the face of the crisis, the people of Taiwan have chosen to respect each other’s freedom and their own lives, and to put strong pressure on the government to manage and control public health.
There are many incidents of protests, petitions, and civil disobedience by the people of Taiwan on various issues, on various occasions, and against various government officials — in the face of persecutions. We don’t need to be lectured about obedience to authority.
It’s an easy explanation to say that the reason for Taiwanese diligent wearing of masks lies in their obedience to government authorities; however, this is at best simply wrong.
Like the people of Taiwan, Australians are a freedom loving people with an amazing culture and deep history. Every closed door is an opportunity to forge new paths and I think 🇹🇼🇦🇺 relations will only get stronger from here — everyone is doing their part.
It looks like China just put an up to 212% tariff on Australian wine to “stop dumping.” What a shame! While at TEP city gov, I made good Aussie friends, sometimes over Aussie wine. And I, for one, believe Taiwan is willing to do its best to pick up the slack on wine imports!
