They have not owned part of the company for nearly a decade. Rightly or wrongly, it was nationalised to save it and protect customers money.

There should be/is no expectation of getting your money back on any purchase/investment, which are all assets.
Shareholders bet on capitalism and lost. Should they be compensated? If you bet on a horse and it loses, you don't get your money back. 🤔
