at first I was like, wow Google went and did the evil thing ....then you read the thread and realize that the *carrier* injected this ad into a 2FA SMS 😈
I just received a two factor authentication SMS from Google that included an ad. Google's own Messages SMS app flagged it as spam. What a shameful money grab.

Replying to @MikaelThalen
But Austin Energy & Oncor both use smart meters produced by the company 'Landis+Gyr' on their customers' homes & businesses. A hardware hacker known as Hash discovered that the devices openly broadcast how much time has passed since their last outage. dailydot.com/debug/hacker-sm…

this is a hell of an endorsement for GDPR's actual protection of people's data, despite the law's problems
The grocery app we use for shared shopping lists has been sold by its German developer to an American advertising company and so all non-US and Canada users will have their accounts deleted

Load shedding is a very normal thing, but a hot water cylinder is VERY different from your home A/C in these climates. Also, these people didn't know they had enrolled in many cases.

This is why it's important to read the fine print. This wasn't secret; they opted in. Also there shouldn't be so much fucking fine print that you're held responsible to read.
