We got a critical hardware level bug affecting two decades of computers on the third day of 2018 I'm scared for the rest of this year.

Here's a thread of AWS customers saying their CPU went to shit when Amazon quietly patched this out this week forums.aws.amazon.com/thread…

Here's AMD claiming it's not affected and Google VERY SPECIFICALLY saying it is. Turns out we're all screwed.

Ha! Finally those Windows 3.1 ATMs are now more secure than anthing I purchased in the past 20 years. #ThanksIntel #NeverSawItComing

Happy new year they said. It would be secure they said.

Ideally it would be fixed at the hardware level but that appears to be impossible. Kernel patch is a band aid but it beats having nearly every non-ARM processor of the last ten years having an unpatched security vulnerability.

Too much confusion right now. The only system which already has a patch is Linux Kernel which doesn't target AMD nor ARM processors, only Intel. However Google states all modern processors may be affected and They have tested Intel, AMD and ARM. Let's wait for more information

this has concerned me immensely as I perform a lot of realtime parallel dsp that relies heavily on every remaining morsel of available cpu power. I'd like to see a dsp performance evaluation of the new macs before&after the patch.

Not quite since 1995. Pre-2013 Atoms are also immune. Could pull mine out and switch back to it...
