Meltdown only affects Intel procs, but Spectre affects Intel, AMD, and even some ARM processors. Makes me laugh that AMD tried to pretend it doesn't affect them since they were only asked about Meltdown.

oh the operating system needs an update, like the fix is in the Linux kernel and a Windows security update. It's not a motherboard driver issue AFAIK.
it's a whole class of problem, so maybe some microcode (is that part of the BIOS?) fixes address a part of the issue
